PURPOSE

The Hall of Fame was organized to recognize and to pay tribute to former athletes and supporters of athletics for their exceptional athletic performance while at Tuskegee and/or their loyal dedicated support of athletics as well as their contributions and community service through their professional careers. To serve as a stimulant to student-athletes, especially those with high skills of athletic attainment to seek higher education training at Tuskegee University.

Since the inaugural induction ceremony, November 1974 over two hundred individuals have been enshrined. To be eligible for induction the athlete must have:

GOVERNANCE

The Hall of Fame is governed by a Board of Directors and standing committees established by the constitution and by-laws, the committees are appointed by the Board of Director. The Chairmen of the Board of Directors is elected by the membership of the board at its first meeting. The composition of the Board of Directors is as follows:

  • Five members of the Hall of Fame elected by the Hall of Fame Membership
  • The Athletic Director at Tuskegee University
  • The Director of Alumni Affairs
  • Three members at large selected by the Board of Directors

Induction Ceremony

OVERVIEW Induction Ceremonies are held during the fall of odd years usually during the month of September. The Induction Ceremony is designed to give respect and acknowledgement to the new inductees to the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame. The primary activities planned during the induction ceremony weekend include:

  1. Annual Meeting Board of Directors and Members of Hall of Fame
  2. Enshrinement Banquet
  3. Hall of Fame Football Game

The Enshrinement Banquet is a semi-formal affair with advanced ticketing.

SOURCE OF FUNDING To capture the induction event and provide support to inductees and the Hall of Fame mission, a souvenir journal will be prepared. The souvenir journal will allow family, friends, colleagues and the business community to acknowledge the honoree’s achievements and to express appreciation for the many ways they have touched your life. Nominees who are selected for induction and accept the nomination are expected to contribute a minimum of $600.00 to help defray the cost of sustaining the Hall of Fame. Congratulatory ads placed in the souvenir journal for a nominee by family, friends, colleagues and businesses will count toward the nominee’s expected minimum contribution. The congratulatory ads range in size and price. Details of the souvenir journal; enshrinement banquet tickets; game tickets; lodging and other pertinent information will be available after the selection process conclude. Your support of the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame mission is appreciated. Thank You.

Nonmination

Nominations for induction are accepted through out the year, but all nominations must be submitted prior to January 1 of the induction year. Inductions are held during the fall of odd years usually during the month of September. Currently accepting nominations for 2019.

Who can nominate candidate?
Nominations can be made by Hall of Fame Members; Tuskegee University Alumni; Tuskegee University Alumni Clubs; any individual knowledgeable about the candidate’s achievements; or the candidate.
Selection Criteria: Nominees for induction into the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame will be evaluated on the following criteria:
